That’s the headline in The Age this morning.
VICTORIA has witnessed this country’s greatest natural disaster. Worse than Black Friday. Worse than Ash Wednesday. That is the grim sum of a catastrophe that already exceeds all others — and which threatens to grow worse.
It’s the top story all around the world. But there’s not much we can do.
I can’t fight the fires… I can’t give blood… I can’t comfort those in pain and mourning… I’m going to discuss with my family what we can collectively do. This is a horrible thing to admit, but I’ve been in a sort of daze so far.
Speaking of family, I’ve got to head off to the airport and see off my brother this morning. Guess where he’s going.
I’ve been in a sort of daze too. My husband has been actively fighting the fires (CFA volunteer) so I suppose in a way I’ve been busy holding the fort here at home but mostly I’ve just felt at a loose end. In the coming days and weeks (and months) there will be much to be done and I’m sure everyone who wants to will find a good way to contribute.
Good on your husband! I wish him all the best. They were just saying on the news to hold back on the clothing donations, which is part of what I was going to do, so I’ll try and find other ways, at least until they say it’s useful to send clothing.
