It is no secret on this blog that I am a huge fan of Professor Larissa Behrendt. (I almost passed out when I got to shake her hand a few months ago.) So I am so pleased to be able to tell you that she’s just been announced as the NSW Australian of the Year ‘in recognition of her passionate and articulate advocacy for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’. I am so stoked, I can’t even tell you, and I hope she is named Australian of the Year in January. You can read all about the announcement, Prof. Behrendt and her work at the Sydney Morning Herald piece as well as about the work of some other amazing New South Welsh types like Ron McCallum and Donald Ritchie. I am so proud that there are so many people doing such great service to the communities around me.
