What leads people to diminish horror?
It’s so hard to sit with events that make you utterly recoil. It’s hard to sit and not turn away, or try and turn it into something less than it is. It’s necessary to sit with it, even if you can’t do anything but bear witness to someone else’s pain. Because not acknowledging the scale of it means not acknowledging the humanity affected by that horror. And twisting it for your own use or comfort is using those affected by that horror. Diminishing horror means diminishing lives.
Sit with it, take a suffering hand, say I recognise you, I am here.
